Guide for Authors
Authors presenting at IIRA HRM study group meetings are invited to submit manuscripts of approximately 50 double spaced typewritten pages using a fixed space, 12 pitch typeface. Manuscripts should conform to the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed).
All manuscripts must include a 100-150 word abstract typed on a separate page. All authors should be shown and author's details must be printed on a separate sheet. A brief autobiographical note should be supplied for all authors including full name, affiliation, e-mail address and full international contact details. Up to six keywords should be included which encapsulate the principal subjects covered by the article.
Where there is a methodology, it should be clearly described under a separate heading. Headings must be short, clearly defined and not numbered. Notes or Endnotes should be used only if absolutely necessary and must be identified in the text by consecutive numbers, enclosed in square brackets and listed at the end of the manuscript.
Figures, tables, charts, diagrams and illustrations should be kept to a minimum. They must be black and white with minimum shading and numbered consecutively using arabic numerals. Artwork should be either copied or pasted from the origination software into a blank Microsoft Word document, or saved and imported into a blank Microsoft Word document. In the text the position of a figure/table should be shown by typing on a separate line the words "take in Figure 2". Authors should supply succinct captions. Mathematical notations should be provided in both symbols and words. Dates should be prepared thus: 1 September 1994. Where appropriate, spell with -ise, -isation, etc. Lengthy quotations should be indented, with no quotation marks.
References to other publications should conform to the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed). They should contain full bibliographical details and journal titles should not be abbreviated. References should be shown within the text by giving the author's last name followed by a comma and year of publication all in round brackets, e.g. (Simon, 1951). At the end of the article should be a reference list in alphabetical order as follows
(a) for books
Cascio, W.F. (1998). Applied Psychology in Human Resource Management (5th ed.). Upper Saddle River: Prentice Hall.
(b) for chapter in edited book
Schuler, R.S, Dowling, P.J., & De Cieri, H. (1999). An integrative framework for strategic international human resource management. In R.S. Schuler & S.E. Jackson (Eds.), Strategic Human Resource Management (pp. 319-355). Oxford: Blackwell.
(c) for articles
Gunderson, M. (2001). Economics of personnel and human resource management. Human Resource Management Review, 11(4), 431-452.
There are two ways to submit the manuscript. The strongly preferred way is by email attachment. To do so, simply attach a copy of the Microsoft Word file to an email. Our address is s.zagelmeyer@fh-bad-honnef.de. We will confirm the receipt of the manuscript as soon as possible by email. Alternatively, you may submit your manuscript on a 3.5 floppy disk or CD by mail or express delivery. Please include with the disk a cover letter indicating your address, telephone number and topic codes.
